Service Evaluation Report 2023-24

We're delighted to share our Service Evaluation Report for 2023-24, which analyses the responses we received from our survey of service users.

This is the second evaluation to be conducted by Arden University's School of Criminal Justice, and we are very grateful for their continuing support and for producing such an insightful report.

The evaluation was intended to help us get a better sense of the impact of the work we do, and as such, we asked people to reflect on whether they had noticed any changes in four key areas as a result of getting a befriender.  We were pleased to see positive responses (‘better’ / ‘much better’) at the following rates:

  • How they feel about getting through their sentence: 87% (the same as last year)
  • How they feel about themselves: 77% (down from 79% last year)
  • How they feel about their future: 83% (up from 79% last year)
  • How connected they feel to the outside world: 83% (up from 79% last year)

These results have helped confirm the rehabilitative potential of befriending, and we are also pleased to note that 98% of respondents would recommend us to another person in prison.

The report contains many quotes provided by service users in their questionnaires, which will give you the opportunity to hear in their own words the difference their volunteer has made to them.

If you would like to make a donation to help us continue to run this vital service, then you can do so here: https://www.newbridgefoundation.org.uk/donate

I hope that you will enjoy reading the report and finding out more about the work that we do.
